Beauty enthusiast Suzy Griffin spoke with Antonia Basil, Lancôme Glam Suite's lead makeup artist, and Suzanne Flower, founder of 14 Day Mani, to discuss all the trends spotted at the VIP Style Awards.
The VIP Style Awards swept through the brand-new Royal Convention Center in Dublin in May, and what a night it was. What I loved most about the event is how extra everyone went with their looks, from ballroom gowns to pearl-dotted eyes.
This is not your usual black tie event; the style awards are a chance to let loose, push the envelope, and have some fun.
As with most events, my own outfit was incredibly last minute, but my makeup was planned for weeks. There were mood boards saved as I decided a very dramatic black smokey eye would be my look of the night alongside a nude lip as glossy as I could manage.

I prepped my skin with the beautiful Ella & Jo products, their Enzyme Mask has been a firm favourite pre-makeup, and for nights spent in front of the telly, their Miracle Mask is just gorgeous to leave on a little longer.
The incredibly talented Robert Reilly helped create my smokey eye of dreams blending out a super creamy kajal liner with his fingers across my lid and tight-lining upper and lower lashes with the same pencil.
For my glossy nude lip, I went with my current favourite trio: Natasha Denona lip crayon in 'I Need a Rose', Charlotte Tilbruy's 'Dancefloor Princess', and the glossiest lip topper, Makeup By Mario Moistureglow Lip Serum in the shade Blush.
To find out what makeup the rest of the guests went with I caught up with the Lancôme Glam Suite's lead makeup artist for the VIP Style Awards, Antonia Basil.
What was the most requested makeup look at the style awards?Fresh-faced glamour was the look of the evening, beautiful glowy skin with a focus on enhancing the eyes and keeping the lips neutral.
Who went the most daring with their makeup? We have seen a comeback of the smoky blue eye this season with a few guests wanting to replicate Emma Chamberlain's look from the Met Gala.
Talk us through the makeup trends that were most common across the board at the awardsA real focus on healthy skin showing through rather than a full coverage foundation. This look is about applying the right amount of product only in the areas that need it.
Deconstructed smoky eyes, this year we saw much more of a focus on the eyes, with eye makeup being applied to look more smudgy around the eye line and then smoked out with cool tone eyeshadows.
How have the looks changed this year compared to last year?Last year we were seeing a lot of bold lips on the red carpet, this year most attendees moved away from that look and went for fresh-faced glamour with a focus on slightly bolder eyes.
We also are seeing more of a shift when it comes to complexion, this year was more of a dewy finish, natural complexion with the skin showing through.
What are your best make-up tips for red carpet glamour?Prepping the skin first is key. Keeping the skincare light and fresh is also important to ensure it doesn't affect the longevity of the makeup.
Always apply a primer before the foundation this will ensure the makeup stays in place all evening Lancôme La Base Pro is a great one to use as it also smooths the skin.
Always set your makeup with either a powder or a setting spray.
What makeup looks and styles do you think we will see trending this summer?
Healthy skin: A focus on skincare to create a beautiful base and then foundation and concealer used more sparingly in only the areas that need it to give that no-makeup finish.
Underpainting: Concealing and contouring first and then applying foundation as a final step, this gives the illusion of a very sculpted face without the appearance of product being used.
Glossy Lips: Everyone loves this trend as a glossy lip always looks fuller, we know the Lancôme Juicy Tubes will be a favourite for the makeup bag this summer.
I also couldn't help but notice the impeccable nails on display throughout the night! To get the lowdown on the nail trends of the night and what we can expect to see on everyone's talons this summer, Suzanne Flower Founder of 14 Day Mani kindly revealed all. What were the top nail trends spotted on the red carpet at the VIP style awards?
The 'clean girl’ trend has some serious staying power, proven by the understated wash of sheer nude pinks and milky white shades that adorned the red carpet this year.
Georgie Crawford and Lauren Arthurs were just two who nailed the look with pared-back nails that gleamed with glossy health. Terrie McEvoy's nude nails peeked through her mesh gloves, making for a mani that was anything but boring.
We also spotted some gorgeous pink nails in different styles, namely Emma Power's hot pink hue and Sophie Murray's touch of chrome.
We also can't forget Triona McCarthy's perfect ‘mani match’ with pastel blue nails paired with her stunning blue dress; proof that spring pastels are here to stay for summer!
