Kate Middleton breaks royal protocol with bold Easter manicure
Could we be seeing a change when it comes to tradition?
We always love seeing what Kate Middleton wears and the bold matching blue outfit that she wore to Easter Sunday service with her family (9th April) has quickly become one of our absolute favourite looks of hers. However, royal fans did spot something interesting about Kate's manicure.
While attending Easter Mattins Service at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, where she was accompanied by her husband Prince William, as well as the couple's three children, Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7 and Prince Louis, 4, the family matched in shades of blue. But Kate's nail colour was a definite contrast.
Kate rarely strays from royal protocols and rules, with her seldom wearing nail polish or only painting her nails a neutral colour, since joining the royal family in 2011. Which is why many were surprised to see her sporting a deep red hue on her nails this weekend.
Normally she would be wearing a neutral, nude or clear polish, as it was believed that the late Queen had a preference for those sorts of colours. You may remember the uproar following Meghan Markle's choice to wear a dark manicure to the British Fashion Awards back in 2018.
Etiquette expert William Hanson explained that "skin coloured" nail polish is preferred, "so hot red and bright pink, for example, are not correct, especially for official occasions and particularly during mourning," when speaking to The Sun.
"So it's either translucent or dusky pink - so that would basically be the colour of your nails so it looks natural."
During the Queen's reign, wearing red nails would potentially have signified a royal rebelling against the rules. However, this Easter Sunday marked the first since the Queen's passing.
We don't know whether King Charles has new rules, or is less strict about enforcing them, or if Kate just decided to embrace something new this year. But we can't wait to see what she wears next!
