The videos have since gone viral, being viewed on TikTok more than nine million times and Facebook about 8.7 million times.

However, 7NEWS.com.au can reveal police have now learned the footage was likely to have been filmed in Queensland and they have launched an investigation into whether the man has committed driving offences.

It's understood the man would not have drawn police attention had he not filmed himself driving on a road.

In the videos, the man uses a hatchet to puncture the tyre before cutting a hole in the rubber.

While the wheel remains connected to the car, he puts water, balls of wire for reinforcement and rocks inside the tyre.

"This helps to bind it all together," he says.

"I think I might take the tyre off. This makes it a bit easier."

He then fills the tyre with cement mix, before adding water.

"Let's seal it up and give it a good mix," he says before rolling the tyre.

"OK, that's feeling pretty mixed. Let's let it sit for 24 hours and it’ll be good to go."

When he returns to check on his handiwork the following day, he rates the tyre as "rock solid" and "nice and hard".

"Only one thing left to do: Give it a test drive," he says.

As he begins to drive on the front lawn of the property, he describes the experience as feeling "a bit weird, but pretty good".

He determines, "We’re good to go", before driving onto a public street.

While being shown driving on the road, he tells viewers it "definitely feels a bit weird now".

He then cuts the tyre open to reveal the concrete breaking up. He deems it to be "starting to get a bit messy" and "still very wet".

"Might have needed a little bit more curing time," he says.

The man's actions have drawn rebuke online.

"He just took us back to the Flintstones," one person said on Facebook.

Another speculated the "wheel is now heavier than whole car", while a TikTok user said it "seems like a great way to put unnecessary strain on your gearbox".

"He won't even get to 10mph (1.6km/h) before that wheel is ground to dust," a Redditor said after the footage was posted to the forum DiWHY.

In other videos, the man also tried using nails and duct tape as DIY "substitutes" for tyres.
