If the Milwaukee Bucks will improve their roster this off-season, a trade will be their best bet, given their minimal spending money and assets for the upcoming NBA Draft.
For the most part, fans are thinking big when it comes to potential targets. However, they may be thinking a little too big with players like Damian Lillard or Jaylen Brown. Milwaukee does not have enough ammunition to get either of those guys. Instead, Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley detailed a perfect dream off-season trade target for the Bucks in his latest piece, which is Buddy Hield.
Hield, currently a member of the Indiana Pacers, is someone Bucks fans have kept an eye on for a long time now, and rightfully so. The guard has cemented himself as one of the best long-distance shooters in the league today, having made the second most 3-pointers league-wide since he was drafted in 2016. He trails only Stephen Curry, which is certainly not bad company. For his career, Hield has shot a blistering 40.2 percent from deep on an eye-catching 7.7 attempts per contest.
It goes without saying that a 3-point shooter of Hield's caliber would help the Bucks as they look to bounce back from an embarrassing playoff collapse. Milwaukee needs help on offense, and an excellent marksman like Hield would make sense. Hield and Giannis Antetokounmpo would make for a lethal one-two punch on that side of the basketball. Over the past few years, the Bucks have targeted a 3-point shooter to be Antetokounmpo's kick-out threat on the perimeter. Bryn Forbes and Grayson Allen have had their best 3-point shooting seasons in this role, and having Hield in this particular role would be like those two guards on steroids.
Hield certainly isn't the strongest defender, but his scoring and shooting output outweighs that. The Bucks need another player who can put the ball in the basket, and Hield fits the billing to a tee. Milwaukee has been a revolving door for starting shooting guards over the past few seasons, and Buddy Hield would undoubtedly be the best of the bunch.
It's unclear if the Pacers will entertain Hield in trade talks this off-season, but if they do, he’d be ideal for the Bucks with one year and $18.6 million left on his contract. Milwaukee has the salary to match via several players, and they could scrounge up some solid assets to get the two guard. Time will tell, but Hield should unquestionably be on Milwaukee's radar via trade this off-season.
