‘Fore!’: Bryson DeChambeau’s wayward shot nails fellow competitor preparing to tee off at PGA Championship
Bryson DeChambeau has hit a fellow competitor in the back as he tried to tee off during the first round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club.
A wild shot from Bryson DeChambeau has hit another player in round one of the PGA Championship.
The LIV Golf defect has reunited with his former PGA Tour colleagues this week and is one back from the lead after round one in New York but it was one shot in particular that has captured headlines.
Kenny Pigman was standing over the ball about to hit his tee shot on the par-4 18th at Oak Hill Country Club when he ducked for cover following loud calls of "fore".
Seconds later DeChambeau's ball struck him in the back leaving Pigman looking around wondering where the ball came from.
Bryson Dechambeau just absolutely drilled Kenny Pigman with a drive. When asked he said…Guy shouldn’t have been standing there 😂 #pgachampionship pic.twitter.com/rdtpft10Dv
DeChambeau had been hitting his second shot on the 460 metre par-4 17th which but the ball went flying towards the group ahead of him which included Davis Thompson and Maverick McNealy.
Footage from the incident showed the ball bounce off Pigman's back and into the rough near the tee box on 18 before DeChambeau rushed up to apologise.
DeChambeau would card a bogey on the 17th but the incident didn't help Pigman who finished with an 11-over 81 leaving him second last.
Fans were stunned by DeChambeau's incredible ability to card a four-under finishing as clubhouse leader in a round which included hitting a fellow competitor.
"Bryson DeChambeau has 5 birdies, 2 bogeys, 1 golfer hit with errant tee shot and a current share of the lead thru 13… Talk about filling the stat sheet. Golf's a hell of a sport," tweeted one fan.
